-
- First the software:
-
- If you're going to be playing long timed scripts (like for subtitling
- foreign videos), JACOsub is your best bet. It's shareware, but it's a
- professional quality package with features rivaling commercial software
- costing 10 times as much. If you just want to display an occasional
- title now and then on home video, JACOsub will do this also, but you
- might find Broadcast Titler or SCALA (>$200) more to your liking.
-
- The current version of JACOsub is 2.4, available at
- http://ftp.wustl.edu/pub/aminet/gfx/show/jcosub24.lha
-
- Version 2.5 will be released shortly -- it's significantly different from
- 2.4, giving you smooth scrolling and special transition effects like wipes
- and dissolves.
-
- (Of COURSE I will promote JACOsub! I'm the author.)
-
- Hardware:
-
- For running JACOsub, the minimal practical system is an Amiga with 1.5
- megabytes of memory, and two storage devices (like two floppy disks or one
- hard disk and a floppy). You also need a genlock to overlay your graphics
- onto video. I recommend the Supergen, because then JACOsub has direct
- control over fades, but other genlocks will work fine.
-
- Any Amiga will do. But try to find one running AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher.
- My recommendation is an A1200.
-
- Of course, you will also need a video source and a video recorder. For
- subtitling, the best combination is a laserdisc with a SuperVHS VCR.
